THE TOWN Capital
of the Garraf district in the Barcelona region of Spain, it's a town located between
Barcelona and Tarragona, 10 km. south from the well known seaside town of Sitges,
beside the Mediterranean sea.

You have to visit the old nucleus of The Geltrú that conserves part of the layout of the old walls, as the
Portal del Nin
1; together with the La
Geltrú Castle 2 ( XII centuries to the XV ) and Santa María's Church
( XVIII century ). Visits forced it´s also the
Enveja
Tower 3 (old tower of surveillance), as well as the Vila
square ( downtown ) 4, the Sant Antoni
Abbot Church 5 (XVIII century) - pattern of Vilanova -, inside which is the image of the
" Virgin of Neus " (patroness in turn of this city)
Then we will lower going for a walk per their magnificent Rambla 6 (the most direct avenue in Catalonia), and we will arrive to the seafaring neighborhood, with the fishermen´s port 8 , the Fish Auction Hall 9, the lighthouse 10, and the Sant Cristòfol Hermitage 11 (reconstructed in the year 1505). We will have our before the beach of the Lighthouse Beach 12 , and if we return on our steps and we go following the Marítim Walk 7 in all their extension, we will arrive to their modern and excellent Marinas 13. fair to their side we will find the beautiful Ribes Roges Park, authentic and magnificent balcony to the Mediterranean sea, through the Ribes Roges beach 24, and continuing with our journey will find the beaches of: Sant Gervasi 25, that of the Prat of Ibersol and the Llarga beach, this last makes of frontier with the neighboring municipality of Cubelles.

Vilanova
and their inhabitants live their festivals and traditions in a way participativa
and open to all, where the Societies and Entities of Vilanova are their maximum
exponent, always with the help of their citizens, to be able to offer the best
thing in each event, conserving the most ancestral traditions. The
festivals begin with the Tres
Tombs (The three turns in January 17 parade of carriages thrown by
horses, representing as formerly the objects and people were transported), they
continue a month following with the Carnival that they begin on
Saturday with the Dance
of Shawls, (Official begin of the Carnival) , on following Thursday with the
infantile
merengada (dessert sweet with the help of milk that the children are thrown
each other ). On Friday comes Carnestoltes King (the "king" of the
carnival) with their " arrivo
"(arrival) .They continue on Saturday in the afternoon with the
arrival of the "Caramel" (the "candy" is the children
Carnival King) , and the one paraded by the streets of the city of the Moixó
Foguer (naked and covered character totally of feathers that goes
appearing and disappearing of the interior of a great box), and at night the
adults with theis disguises . On Sunday is the "Comparses"
day (people go for couple and they throw sweets -almost a 100 tons !!- to the
multitude).On Monday is the "Vidalet
Day" (children's carnival), and the Carnestoltes Choirs , on Tuesday is the " Vidalot
Day"(the adults leave disguised in group and they throw grains of corn and
barley on people).And to finish on Wednesday is the sardine funerals (it is the simulation of the death of the Carnestoltes King
!!) , after 12 days of popular festivals. The last week of the month of June takes place the Week of the Sea in the seafaring neighborhood, with a group of activities related with the sea and their men and women, and June 29 takes place Sant Pere Festival (seafaring party with procession for the coast of the fishing crafts and blessing of these ships). The Main Festival Week is August 5 (the virgin´s of Neus festivity) From the XIV century Vilanova celebrates your Fair of the month of November (Multisectorial Fair), this contest in the course of the time has gone by thousand and an incidents, but the Fair continues existing for and for the city.

GASTRONOMY or the art of the good one to eat - If you want to see the recipes of these plates you make "clik" on their behalf. - The
most famous foods are the "
xatò "(the endive is the vegetable main character, to which cod and tuna are
added in brine, not salted, anchovies and olives. Vilanova i the Geltrú is earth of wines. April 23: Sant George, the book and the rose Festival. April: "Corvettada". ( Corvettes Car's Fair ). April: Used Car Fair. May: San Isidro Festivals, brought to life with participants in clothing from about 1900. May : Trapezi, International Circus Fair. June: Seafaring week. Sant Peter's festival. June: "Platja de Vilanova" Swimming Competition. June: XVIII Popular Soaked. Participants go to the beach to bathe, in the bathing costumes from around 1900. July: Musical afternoons in the Ribes Roges Park. July: Dance in the Ribes Roges Park. Participants go to the dance, in the dancing costumes from around 1900. July: F.I.M.P.T.2008 International festival of popular and traditional music, it takes place from the year 1979, and in this festival there are groups of popular and traditional music from all over the world. August 5: VILANOVA I LA GELTRÚ MAIN FESTIVAL WEEK. August: Cinema in the street. Setember 11: National Day of Catalonia. Setember : GALACTICA. International fair of inventions. It takes place since the year 1993. Setember: Vilanova i la Geltrú Triathlon. October: Classic Motorcycle fair. October: Popular running race "Ciutat de Vilanova" ( through the streets of the town ). November: Beach Golf Trophy "Ciutat de Vilanova". November : FAIR OF NOVEMBER . Multisectorial fair wher all the corporations and activities are represented. November: New Wine festival. December: XXIX Half Marathon "Ciutat de Vilanova". December 21 to 24 and January 2 to 5: Christmas Fair. 12/21 to the 01/05 Large nativity scene in the main town square, Theatrical representation of "Els Pastorets" (The Shephards).
